Well today I've been treated to Spanish life good an proper.
Lunch was a delicious whole fish.. Well I think it was fish, it might have been fsh. (No eyes!) ![]() Once I'd got over my desire to run and actually forced myself to pull the head off, de gut and de bone this, the meat was actually quite tasty, althoug I think dropping a fish into a deep fat frier without at least gutting it is a bit gross. Anyhow, tonight I thought, since it's my last night, I'd have a paella. I'm in Spain after all.. Well what was served resembled something that had been left in the sun too long by the seaside.. Dried, over cooked and the muscles hadn't been cleaned and the shrimp looked like it died last year.. Really, I've had better Paella cooked by my ex-wife when we were talking about divorce (And she was English and wanted me dead!) But that wasn't the worst part.. The thing that made me forget the quality of my food was what was on the TV.. Because what I had to watch was a bunch of guys strutting around a ring in tight trousers that were so tight you could make out the wrinkles in their danglies.. While they were doing this, they stuck spears and swords into a large pissed off bull until he was dead. Now bulls aren't the cleverest of beasts, and ones that had been trained to chase red and pink flags while people stuck it to them with sharp metal objects were probably among the lower IQ range, but the cheers that went up everytime this overdressed tart did is disturbing.. Strange how quiet the restaurant went after I cheered the bull on for catching the shiney guy in the nuts with one of his horns.. So I paid for my roasted paella and left, having decided that I'd rather my beef was shot not stabbed in future. A bit further down the street is an Ice Cream shop to give Ben and Jerry's a run for their money, so I thought I'd go in and cheer myself up... I counted 80 different flavours on sale, choose three carefully and come back tomorrow to choose three more.. So I had the following Flavours: Mojito.. Which is Lime flavoured, and really tastey. I had the New York Cops favourite; dohnut. Seriously, Icecream flavoured with Dohnuts.. Really quite nice.. And last but not least, I had something that was described as "Black Crunch" and tasted, rather surprisingly of vanilla.. This is REALLY delicious.. And now I'm laying in bed feeling a bit sick, but not sure why.. Night all

Ugh. You've almost put me off my lunch. And lunch isn't for another hour or so.
Good night.

Glad you cheered the bull. In Portugal it's against the law to kill the bull.

I'm not into animal torture either. Hasn't PETA gone after the bullfighters yet?

shame about the paella.. and shame on you for waiting so long, it should be one of the first things you tried that way if it went wrong, then you could find another. I once, spent an entire week in Madrid for work and ate at a different paella place every single night trying all the types.. .mmmm the good ol' days.

That's the beauty of having been a soldier in my previous life, and one that spent LOTS of time in the "field"... I've eaten worse. Off the ground. Uncooked. With dirty nasty bare hands. Sometimes self caught/killed.
Ahhh... what I would have done for a cooked meal at times. Life is easier because of what guys like me went through.. right Jim Poor? |
