I wanted to show some "arty" people some photos and my "main" websites weren't really suitable so I just slapped this together today.
I'm not really after website feedback and I know there are a few issues (notably img titles are still DSC....). If you recall, I mentioned a while ago that photographic "art" is generally made up of ridiculously shit photos. Like a blurry cushion on a sofa - you know, like when you drop the camera and it goes off sort of thing. It seems the worse the photo is the more "arty" it is - like fashion, the more of a dick you look, the more fashionable and trendy you are. So I've put up some of my photos that - generally - fall into the "snaps" category to see what people think - some of these "arty" shots were snapped from the waist because I was too ill to compose a proper picture. Also, I've got a thing for high contrast black and white this month :P But looking at them, I can't work out if I like them or not. Some feel very vietnamy, 1960's B/W america type style, which I've noticed is what most framed prints are on walls in pubs and the like. So I was wondering what you all think (the monochrome section we're talking about here, the colour section has more normal photos in). Are they pointless snappy, blurry, waste of time photos. Or do you get the feeling you like them? Cheers NB: I know there's a colour photo in the monochrome section, it's low saturation and didn't really fit with the other colour shots :P oh, and the link of course: Jamie O'Rourke – Photographer | Non Commercial Photographic Work

Art is very subjective, as has been discussed a lot. I very much like over half your shots in the monochomatic section. My favs are the close up of the older fellow (monk? - Img8) with glasses, and the candid of the younger monk (img5).
Certainly not snappy or pointless. And I checked out the colour ones too. Love the lady in the red jersey with glitter on her face.

Cheers. Yeah the slightly coloured monk one I really like :P But those street ones.... meh. "Art" really winds me up, there was a woman on the news, she had a new "exhibition" and all it was was some cloth hung from the roof. Like seriously, these people actually believe they are putting thought into their creations, ... a red spot, slightly off center on a white canvas - call it art, get some morons to "interpret it" and sell it for £300,000. Excuse my language, but people like that can just get Fxxxed.

Jamie, I've been thinking about your B&W shots all weekend.
I hope that's not weird ![]() I just had to pop back to mention that I think the picture of the two blokes sitting on the steps is keeper. While the pictures of the monks are great, they have a certain timeless-ness about them. Monks have looked the same for hundreds of years, and in another hundred will likely look the same still. Those two fellows sitting on the steps are a record of our time. Cargo shorts, running shoes, water in plastic bottles - even the tatts. No one looked like that 100years ago, and by 2112 there will have been changes we can't imagine. Keep that shot. Just my two cents.

Oh no, I have to disagree with you, I've got some really cool blurry art photos that people like that are welcome to sell for £300,000... Im not sure I'd have sex with them though, I draw the line at having sex with people who have mental disabilities.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd sell my crap photos for loads if I could
But I wouldn't take all my crap photos and pitch them as "art" (generally speaking, although I am giving it a go now lol)Quote:

Nice, They strike me as very photo journalistic. I like your toned monk image as well.
My "art" photographs are hiding on my deviantart site http://ravncat.deviantart.com/gallery/ |
