Default Obvious secrets we should know

Super Obvious Secrets That I Wish They’d Teach In Art School at Marvelous Mustache Factory

So - here`s a great little blog entry. I know that the content is written for illustrator`s and people who draw, but I think all the tips contained within really do apply to photography and many other creative endeavor`s as well, so please do have a look.

I`m not affiliated, I just ended up receiving the link from a friend and thought it worth sharing! Of course, feel free to discuss and share your own super obvious secrets that we should be taught somewhere.

Nice article and it's definitely applicable to photography. I'm glad he mentions that people skills help a lot also.

Good article! Applies to much more than photography actually.

Draw (photograph) every day.
There really is nothing better than being absolutely confident of your abilities, however great or small. As a drummer, if I don't practice even a small amount for a few weeks, I begin to doubt my ability to play. This is mostly because I am not consistently re-enforcing the idea in my head that I can play. It's not until I sit down again at the drum kit that I realise, I can still play.

Challenge yourself and Don't limit your influences
This is one of the best ways to stay on top of your game and expand your abilities. If I see a photograph which I immediately admire, it won't be long before I'm wondering how the photographer took it, how much processing they did, what lights they used, what lens, how they framed the shot. If the rest of their work is just as impressive, that's just expanded my knowledge for what's possible. Not only that, it also gives me something to try myself. Not to imitate their style, but the ideas behind the photographs.

Don't trash talk yourself
I tend to see this all too often on DPS and in some of my photographer friends. They trash talk themselves and thus they get nowhere. Not only that, they don't teach themselves. Even doing the above (influences and challenging yourself) is an enormous part of learning.
