Default Security by Obscurity?

So I post links from a legitimate security newsletter and get banned?

Crypto-Gram: May 15, 2011

Not discussing security issues is not security at all. It is called Security by obscurity and Microsoft and other software companies have been taken to task by security experts for it. Nikon and Canon should learn from them. People should not have some false sense of security thinking they "know for sure" an image has not been photoshoped.

What exactly are you linking to? That's just somebody's blog.

This section:

The Nikon image authentication has been cracked.
April 2011 Advanced Password Cracking – Insight...
28th April 2011 Archive ? The Register...
Canon's system is just as bad, by the way.
Password recovery, forensic, forensics, system and security software from ElcomSoft : recover or reset lost or forgotten password, remove protection, unlock system
Fifteen years ago, I co-authored a paper on the problem. The idea was to use a hash chain to better deal with the possibility of a secret-key compromise.
An Authenticated Camera

And on Nikonrumors there was a discussion:

No idea what your original post said, but if it was just a link to the page without some context that buried in the page is a link to another article about Nikon image authentication, then I can see how the admins might view that as spam. Especially if that was also your first contribution to the forums. Without the context, it appears at first glance to be just a random link to a security blog, with nothing that would be relevant to DPS users.

It really helps if you can give more context when posting links, especially when your account doesn't have a long posting history. As you can see from the discussion above, several established users were a little confused by what you were trying to achieve.

Thanks,

Wulf

As I said to you when I unbanned you "I dare say a lot of our users are more caught up in taking photos"

Yes indeed, you got banned.

What I don't get is why, having been "unbanned" (I'm sure you were given an explanation at that point) you still come and gripe about being banned the first time around.

Ugh.
