Default Camera Simulator

This is quite a good and well done site for people who are new to their DSLR and want to learn in a visual way what the consequences of altering the settings on their camera is.

Problem with these things is that they never get the ISO right. I have yet to find a camera that does that poorly at 400 ISO.

Modern DSLRs show the same data as this simulator, and in more realistic terminology.

Much better to work with the real deal than something conjured up on a website.

Another gimmick, another waste of time.

It might be useful for people who are thinking of buying a dslr. Fiddling with the settings to see how stuff works or something.

I think it's pretty cool. Not really useful for me now but still.

The idea behind it is cool,...but how accurate is it really? And for it to be a teacher, it would be better if it had different scenes. Like low light, fast motion, high contrast,.. etc. Things that you really need to know, like understanding depth of field, manual focus, being able to recompose the scenes to be able to make a better composition,... etc.

Nothing beats the real thing,.....

I think the idea behind the simulator is more to exagerate the effects that changing ISO, Aperture, Speed, Zoom and distance have to a picture. It's not about a realistic rendition of what a DSLR does, it's a teaching aid to show why, for example a photgraph gets over exposed or under exposed, or why you might change the ISO rather than the aperture to allow you to have a higher shutter speed, or vice versa..

For serious photographers that have already firgured all that out, you'll obviously know the reasons, but in your camera, the changes are subtle and a newbie might not yet have the eye for seeing the difference.

Which is why I posted this here.. Not for you lot that are comfortable with you camera, but as a teaching aid for the new people to this site so they can learn the importance of the Aperture/ISO/Speed triangle, and the differences between zooming and taking a pace or two towards your subject.
