you don't have to like the subject to admire the work.

Plus, remember Jon, his target audience are golfers... typically a higher income sort of clientele so the price doesn't shock me though it's waaay outside my range for a book as well.

Images are quite beautiful.

Actually, if I had the throw away funds, I would buy it. The book itself is a work of art. Hand bound, and hand stretched leather cover. The embossed detail on the cover, I could look at for hours. Plus, I like golf!

Sorry, but while the photos are very nice, the whole thing is so contrived.. It was put together with the sole intention of extracting money from rich people. Now while I have no argument with that sentiment, in my book (excuse the pun) that puts this item apart from art. True art is something that was created with the sole intention of creating it.. It's value is given to it by the highest bidder, someone who wishes to look at this particular object more than the next.

Creating limited edition books doesn't make something great art work, it just makes it exclusive.. I wonder whether they could sell this at this price if their print run was 100,000, or if someone prints a copy.. It's just Gucci for your bookshelf, hardly art.

So you can keep this for the suckers.. Once this little bubble has burst, these will not be worth anywhere near what was paid for them, personally, if I had the money to waste on this, I'd find something more constructie to do with it.. four and a half grand equals four and a half thousand meals for children in Africa.. Twenty five grand equals a school.. Now there's some interesting ideas to allow you to enjoy your money, and they may actuallyy outlive you.

I'm with SwissJon on this one. They are nice pictures of golf courses.....the end.
The farm I grew up on would have an auction every fall.....wealthy farmers would bid extremely high on the prize winning herfords and their sperm LOL....at the end of the sale a regular old farm donkey would be auctioned off. Just for the fun of it and because they had the money they would all outbid each other.....the donkey would never go for under $5000 --- astonished me everytime!!
That's all this book is, something for the rich to say they own it. The pics were nice, but not that nice!!

I'm not a Gucci fan either. That is just bling for new money.
Hmm.. You take things rather personally don't you? I don't see why you feel the need to defend a dream when i waas talking about reality. There was nothing in my post that made any personal comment toward you.. You said "If I had".. Which means you don't, in which case nothing I said applies to you.

My opinion is fairly valid.. If you don't do anything to help anyone except yourself in this world then you're selfish, that's the definition of selfishness. Since you obviously have no idea what I do in respect of charities and feeding children, your last comment is, to put it politely, misinformed.

you might just find that the names on that book have given or raised more money for children in africa that you can even imagine. Even 10% of the proceeds go to the sports trust.

If you want to squeal about people pissing money away when they could be building schools for starving African kids, it is probably best not to do it from Switzerland, the country were most of Africa's wealth is hoarded. LOL

No one is asking you to buy one anyway, my reason for sharing was 2 fold.
1. To show the quality of work that is available from true professionals, so many are stuck on deciding whether $100 or $150 is a good professional price
2. To show that value is not purely attached to the $

Also remember that many of the people who will buy this are members of the featured clubs, own property or have done trips to these places. Lifelong memories for many and this kind of book would take pride of place at their golf course home. Hell if you had a spare $4500 you would rush out for a 1Dmkiv, and insane consideration for someone who did not appreciate the "sport" you love.

Lori - different art extracts different emotions in people. Think that many people (in the tens of thousands) are members clubs that cost in excess of $100,000 to join and spend another $30,000 enjoying the privilege. This book may be one of their cheapest golf spends of the year!!

Apparently you caught it before I deleted it, as it really wasn't worth squabbling over.
My point is that you made an absolute statement about something subjective, and then came across rather self righteous about putting the money to "better" use. Yes, I did take it kind of personally, and in retrospect I probably shouldn't have, but only when you made the "sucker" comment. How does my making a dream comment, or talking about reality make any difference? The intention is still the same.
No, I believe my opinion is still just as valid as yours. There will be, and always will be people that value things differently. As long as it holds value to them, what does it matter?

My apologies for going on the defense.
