Travel Photographer of the Year - International photography awards and competition for all amateur and professional photographers

Am I the only person to feel underwhelmed by last years winners? We were discussing this at work today and thought, unanimously, that the children were better than the adults! (Although i love the Buddhist ones)

What a whimp ass site. I hope nobody had to pay an entry fee. Just two people's opinion.
Other words, the awards don't mean crap.

I think I missed something here - the site I saw has quite a large judging panel, three tiered selection process involving multiple people including photographers, editors and the head of Image Resources at the National History Museum, Colin Findlay. Seemed a reasonable panel and therefore worthy of some gravitas. There were entry fees ranging from £20 down per image/portfolio though with only specific image licence required (i.e. connected solely to usage relating to the competition).

I think the winners of these competitions often highlight the issue that the images are different from the others rather than the best image for the public per se. Looking at large tracts of images, many of which will feature specific perspectives and colour scapes, will clearly influence the judges. I liked many of the images, though agree that the presentation on the website could have been significantly better.

When you are that full of yourself, others are bound to not like you.

I speak of things I directly know about.

Good luck Chase! That site is like joining the International Press Association, the press passes don't carry any weight. Then again, I guess placing in any photo contest is braggin rights to some.
