Default For you motorbike riders

I'm looking for a way to safely carry my DSLR and a couple of lenses and my tripod on my bike.. I'm thinking that the tripod could be carried vertically on the forks maybe (So long as it doesn't interfere with steering or suspension) and the camera in a tank bag.. Anyone got any recommendations?

I've carried mine in the saddle bags..... Tripod I have bunjied to the sissy bar once. If you go down, I don't think its really gonna matter where it was located.

Thanks... There's far more dangerous things on the road than a carbon fibre or Aluminium tripod, so as long as it's not pointing at me then I feel like I'm pretty safe wherever it is..

Thing is Mrs Swiss and me are planning to go riding round Europe for 2 weeks this summer, We're going to be bretty laden already, carrying tent and sleeping bags as well as clothes etc., and if I bury the tripod I'll never use it, and if I don't use it, I'll get earache about why I brought the bloody thing in the first place.. I was hoping someone had invented some kind of holster contraption to slot it into so I can grab it when I want.. Otherwise I'll just end up taking a Gorillapod.

Again, the tankbag was to let the camera be easily accessible, I'm looking for something that can be removed as a rucksack.

What kind of bike is it? Does it have a fairing, or is it a naked bike? If no fairing, bungee that bad boy across the handle bars like they did the sleeping bags in Easy Rider!

It's a Yamaha XJR 1300. A naked bike. I thought about bungeeing across the handle bars, but then I wouldn't be able to see the speedo, and the French have a two way agreement with the Swiss over speeding fines!

Might see if I can find a way of strapping it horizontally across the forks..

With the number of paparazzi riding motorbikes, I'm surprised there aren't more things on the market..

I used to put mine in the verticle position on the side/back bar of a gearsack rack held in place with some stretchy straps (like Scott).Worked well in that spot just remember to check that the legs are locked tight .I would also put it on the rack last so that it was easy to get to when on the road .
I hope Mrs Swiss packs less gear than my missus did on her first trip away on the bike ( a two week camping trip at the Phillip Island bike GP) I shipped 140 kg of "stuff" back home after the first week including her 240volt hair dryer LOL we were staying in the middle of a paddock in a tent .The bike handled much better then

I'd vote backpack...then if you stop to get a coffee or into a shop you don't have to unstrap everything. You can use a regular pack if you don't want to use a photo dedicated pack. Tripod straps to side of pack.
