Default Photoshoot compensations?

I'm a student in university but always had an interest in photography as long as I remember. I've done a few photoshoots with friends, but never gave anything to them except the end result.

I always felt that I should be giving them a bit more for their troubles, but never know what. They're always the ones that seem to be excited for the shoot when I ask them shyly, the only compensation I can't really offer is flat money. Any suggestions on kinds of compensation for their time? As a form of gratitude?

Thanks for reading.

To be honest with you, giving someone professional level photographs is reward enough in itself.. Why don't you go down a local photo studio and find out how much a shoot like the one you're doing would cost, that will give you a fairly good idea of how much you're implicitely giving them for their time.

Stunning shots frnak!

I wouldn't worry about "compensating" with the kind of shots you're taking. Maybe give them a chocolate frog or something

Well to be fair, he is asking them if they want to participate (I assume for portfolio purposes). Now, if they come to you, they should be paying.

Haha, I'm go to them to ask for their time, but they're often excited to do the shoot whenever I ask.

My name is Frank btw, I realize Jiexin is not really a gender friendly name lol

When you go to people asking, it's called advertising.

They aren't obliged to accept either way.

Yeah, what I'm saying is "Can I take your portrait?" is different to "Hey, I take super duper photos, let me know if you're interested in a portrait session."

I wouldn't ask someone to pay if I actually asked them to be a subject in a shoot. Whether I would give them much in the way of full resolution photos is another story though.
