Can I just ask why a polorising filter would be so expensive? £100!
If it's unbranded and 4 quid then you might expect it to be rubbish but wouldn't a Hoya or Praktita be around £30 or so? Or would the sizes you need be much more expensive?

no idea why they would be so expensive
aside from ebay the only ones that are 77mm that arn't jessops own brand is a hoya that is £80 i sort of begrudge paying that when really the main benefit i want from it is for removing reflections

53mm? you've got that wrong.
As for paying £100 for one: A) everything in the UK is more expensive, especially photography gear and B) I paid $70 for mine, and it wasn't that great. And only a 67mm.

And if they do vary much, Hoya should be a good brand. 77mm is £64 and 52mm is £32 on eBay both with free delivery.

This one looks pretty reasonable. I've never used one but like you I need to get one for my hols in June. I'm not familiar with the brand but someone else with more experience may be able to help:
Tiffen 77mm Circular Polarizer Filter - Only £68.99 - Park Cameras Online I've used Park Cameras before for light stands and stuff so they are a good reliable company.

This thread peaked my interest too so I had a look at Hoya's brochure [pdf] and it seems they have a few improvements such as 25% greater light transmission and sturdier construction than competitors; if you believe the marketing gubbins!

Have you tried Amazon or ebay in other European countries, you will have to pay extra
for the post but you should be able to save a lot, plus you do not have to pay extra tax as you are in Europe.

B&W is a great make.. They vary in price on Ebay, the ones from Germany being more expensive than the B&W. The difference between the two is not apparently the glass, but the holder.. The ones from Hong Kong are apparently made from alluminium and the ones from Germany are made from brass. The reason why you might be tempted to pay more for a brass one is that brass does not react so much to thermal changes (which is why carburetta jets and so on are made from brass), meaning they're less likely to get stuck in the thread in your lens.
You'll be paying anywhere between £50 and £90 for a B&W..
