Default Your Eyes Do Not Look Like This

YourEye

Your eye does not look like this. Why do people expect their photos to be retouched to look like this? Ok, so maybe this is a little extreme, but you know what I'm talking about. I'll admit that I will usually whiten the eyes and sharpen them a bit, but the client usually expects the Atomic AKA "Glossy" eyes. Since they're buying I'll deliver what they want, but I wonder how many of them really think there eyes look like that.

Yeah I don't get why people have to enhance the colour of their eyes either. Looks way to fake to me. How do you get the "glossy, glassy look" anyway?

Well you start out with a clean rag and some furniture polish...

I've never touched up anyones eyes.. other places perhaps, but not their eyes.

I dont do heavy editing on the eyes, but I do usually do a bit. Whiten the white parts (though not drastically so), and dodge/burn the colour section. A LIGHT burn on the edges (where the colour meets the white) and a LIGHT dodge in the colour where it meets the pupil. I'll then darken the pupil and make the catchlight a bit lighter. I can post a before/after if necessary

You crack me up man. I'm going to start bringing some to the shoot so when they ask for the "glossy eye look" I can just hand them the can and rag.

Feel free to do so I'd be interested to see how heavy the edits are. Do you touch the eyes up because it's requested or just because that's your vision of how it should be?

Just go to youtube and search for CS5 eyes, or something similar and you'll get 954 different ways to do it.
