Default I'm so pissed right now!!

So,..Dennis,... the photographer called me just a lil bit ago, and told me hes going to let me go. I'm so f*cking pissed right now I can't stand it. His reasons for letting me go and NOT really giving me a chance? After working for him for 5 days?

He said that he didn't think that I had a passion for photography the way he does. His basis on this observation? Because I didn't look up why my Nikon camera wouldn't recognize his Canon flash unit. I was supposed to learn how to use his Canon cameras, so I deemed looking that up irelevant. Why would I need to know why the flash didnt work right with my camera, if I wasnt going to be using MY CAMERA?!?!

He said that he thought I knew more about Photoshop. Um,...I told him in the first interview that I knew a program LIKE Photoshop. His basis on this? Because I supposedly didnt know how to convert a PNG file into a JPEG file. I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH PHOTOSHOP!!! The program I know, called GIMP doesnt save files in PNG format. So there was never any reason to convert them. Or maybe because I didn't shoot RAW, because it's kinda hard trying to find a program to convert RAW files that works with GIMP.

He said he would train,...but after 5 days, the only thing I'd learned and gotten down pat, was how to package photos. Oooooo,... yeah, thats gonna help you and me out SO much. He kinda showed me what he needed me to do on Photoshop,..ONCE. OK, so I didnt take notes,...My brain doesnt work like that. My way of thinking and comprehending is very complex. Not very many people can understand the way I think. What can I say,...not everyone can be a left brain thinker like ME!!! If I think that it's something that I will need to write down to remember, THEN I'll write it down.

He said he needed me to be a fast learner. I told him I was. Which I usually am, when it's something I'm interested in. But what he really meant, was he needed somone he cold throw all this stuff at and pick it up, and be able to do what he does by the end of two weeks. Well f*ck,...If I could do that, I'd have my own photography business and I wouldnt be seeking to learn from YOU!! I'd be competition, not hired help! I think what he really wants/needs is another photographer like him. He said,..." You told me you were a photographer." I said "No, I told you I was a HOBBYIST Photographer." Theres a differance. Besides, what do you really know what I can do with MY camera in my hands. All you saw was a few photos,...and since you didnt give me the chance to show you what I can do with MY camera, then I guess you'll never know. That is,...until you see me out there, as your competition.

Let me tell you something, here Mr. I-know-it-all photographer. I'll give him that what he does as far as the Team stuff, is pretty f*ckin cool. But I wonder if he even knows what the Rule of Thirds is. EVERY photographer regardless of what type, should know what the Rule of Thirds is. Photoshop is not something to be used to manipulate the f*ck out of pictures of people. The "artistic" shit that it can do,...is really kinda cheesy. Vignettes are not supposed to be used to hide the fact that you have this habit of NOT FILLING THE FRAME. It is NOT MY FAULT that you are so backed up in your editing work. If you know your backed up, and dont have time to fulfill the time requirements, THEN DONT TAKE MORE APPOINTMENTS!!! It's YOUR FAULT that your going to be working the week of your Daughter's wedding, while family is in town. NOT MINE!! You may know more about Photoshop, and lighting,...but I think I know more about composition and how to use any light thats available. Which will ultimately take me farther. Photoshop and lighting I can always learn later. Photoshop is not a necessity to being a good photographer. Get it right as much as possible IN CAMERA, then use Photoshop to do the things that the camera couldnt.

I've said my peace,... I feel better now. I'm done.

Mods- If I missed a random f*ck in there, I'm sorry. I copy pasted this from my Facebook.

Thanks,.. and I'm sure it is. This only makes me want to go out there and find the photographer that will teach me. I think I'll probably start making some calls Monday to some of the others in the area.

I'm so sorry it didn't work out for you but you DID learn loads in the few days you did work for him and the experience hasn't been totally a waste of time and effort. You even learnt that this kind of "boss" isn't the sort of relationship that works for you.

I think you had high hopes for this job and I felt you could use him as a mentor to enhance and develp your skills kind of learning on the job. Sadly, it sounds as if he just wasn't what you were looking for.

BuddhaPi's right. Something else much better is waiting for you. One door closes and another one opens.

Trust me I've had many jobs and alot of the times they did me a huge favour by "letting me go" one job even inadvertently introduced me to my husband lol!

Yeah,...Thats pretty much what I was looking for. It just pissed me off that he judged me, without really giving me a chance. He assumed instead of asked.

Nice rant.
Take the bits that are useful (there are some, I promise) so that you don't have the same issues the next time.

Major bummer. I knew you were excited when that opportunity came up - too bad it didn't work out. Sh!t happens, just gotta roll with it...

although putting that rant on your facebook maybe a bit counterproductive if ever you get a chance to work with another photog and she or he looks you up....

I can't stand people who assume things about me. It makes me soooooo angry. I'd rant like that too if I was in your position!

I hope it feels better to get that out of your system.
And I'm sure you'll find a better job soon, you don't need to put up with a$$holes like that!
