Default Need help on Lens choice please

I take some coed softball pics and i have the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 with no VC on a Canon 5D but need some more reach. I also have a 2X teleconverter for this lens. My question is, Would i be better off getting a 70-300 with VC, Canon, Sigma or Tamron (not sure which to buy) or buying a 1.4X teleconverter for the Sigma 70-200.

The f/2.8 is a much better lens than the 70-300 options. You would be better off with the TC than the slower lens. Out of curiosity, 200mm should be plenty for softball. How close are you shooting from and can you get closer?

I can get pretty close but the outfield is to far away, Before the 5D i was using a XTI with the cheap 70-300 and because of the crop factor i could really get out there. The 5D being a full frame all i get is 200mm. I guess i could use the XTI with the Sigma 70-200 but love the 5D.

Also the Sigma with a TC and no VC and being handheld im sure some pics will have vibration.

The cropped sensor doesn't give you more reach. You can crop your full frame image by 1.5 and have the same reach you did before.

I suggest you get your shots from one location, and when you need shots from another, you move your body closer to the action. Get you home plate shots the first 2 innings, then move over to 1st or 3rd base and get the in field shots. Then in the 5th or 6th inning, move to the outfield and get those shots. Don't sacrifice your shots for the convenience of not moving. Get active and involved. Your shots will improve.

Curve ball - excuse the pun
I think the IQ may deteriorate significantly and more so when you are tracking movement. I find mine soft...
(I would test drive a 100-400 for reference against the TC)
and then I would take the advice and walk around the field.
