I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I thought I'd take a shot and put it here!
Okay, a discussion came up and it's kinda leaning into an argument, I live in Canada Quebec, so we have Bureau en gros(Staples) Future Shop, Best Buy, a few other places to get cameras, I was wondering, is it cheaper to buy a camera from a store that Specializes in this type of stuff then an electronic store ex- Future shop for a DSLR camera? Someone on my facebook asked a general question on what's better Nikon or Canon because she wants to get into photography because she already does make-up for photo shoots. Someone on her friends list is saying specialized store sells cheaper when I found a great deal (or at least I think it is and it doesn't hurt to check it out and do some research before hand) the other day when I was looking on the Future shop website. Cameras & Camcorders: Digital Cameras & Camcorders - Future Shop and I shared it when her showing this camera. A beginner doesn't need anything more am I right? I don't know much about cameras but to me when you do research before going out to get a camera, you know what you want despite on where you go and what they know on cameras. Right? It's just then looking for a deal. A specialized store seems to be more expensive. Since you guys seems to know about camera's what's your input about it all. Poor girl is getting bombed with notifications lol. Last edited by _Celenaaax; 05-03-2011 at 07:31 PM. |

I do believe she should find out everything she can and decide which camera she wants first. Once she has decided I believe a store specializing is her best bet...IMO. Most camera stores ( you live in Quebec so I think you have Henry's) have price matching. If you find it someplace cheaper than they have, they will match the price. The policies, warranty and expertise are so worth it. Some even have a one hour one on one session included to introduce you to your camera and have pros offering extended lessons for a pretty reasonable price. Call the specialty stores in your area and ask questions......can't hurt and doesn't cost a thing.

Lori, I have to admit, I never heard of Henrys LOL
Yeah, that's the best thing to do is know what type of camera you're looking for and find a deal on that type of camera. It really doesn't hurt to look around before hand. It seems like, all the Digital SLR camera in places that specializes this sells them expensive more then Future shop. I already know Bureau en gros is expensive when it comes to cameras. I came across a few specialized stores online and they all seem to be 800$ + for cameras. Apparently people that work in electronic stores don't know anything about cameras and such when, really when you work in a place that deals with electronics it's only common sense to know a bit about the produces that are being sold right? I know know a camera that comes with 8GB memory card and a DSLR camera for 499$ Seems like a good deal for a beginner. If I wasn't so poor I probably would go out and buy this Canon camera before the deal is up. but hey that's just me. May not be the one I want since I like Olympus cameras but seems fair. and go figure Wal-mart has no pricing up. The Canon Rebel XS has no price on it so I can't compare it to the one at Future Shop. I know that the Canon Rebel xs at Bureau en Gros is 800$. |

Oh wow! Who would of known there's one close-ish to my house. ahah
Do they have more camera's at their place then what they have on the website? For my self, I'm slowly looking to upgrade my camera even though I just received a new one. Not a Digital SLR one but, more high tech then my point and shoot. I don't know, I find Pentax cameras change colors when you take pictures :S |

If there is one close to your home, go in and check it out. Don't talk to the part time kids working though, talk to the full time experienced knowledgeable staff. The store is my area has great staff and willing to answer all questions, you get to try out the cameras in your hand and great return policy......can't say what yours will be like, but can't hurt to walk through the door and talk, right.
Here is the Henry's website see if they have one near you as well(they happen to be my fave!) http://www.henrys.ca/Default.aspx

Go into the stores and find what you like. Try out everything. Then go home and google it. Amazon.com and tigerdirect.com are pretty much the only places I buy electronics any more.
