I know. It is funny that FB is the best source of news. I saw about 30 posts, then turned the news on. FINALLY some justice for the 9/11 victims. I just hope this doesn't start something, kwim?

I've been watching HBO all night and didn't know until I switched over to the local news.

He's gone, but there are probably others behind him

I'm sure security is going to be heightened. Great he's gone, but I worry about the aftermath.

Yes, it has already been raised.... I too wonder if there will be a retaliation.

Me and a couple friends wonder what this will mean for our husbands. They're all in Iraq, but still. I doubt it'll change anything with them being there, but if it means they get to come home, that would be awesome. ( I yell obscenities at the TV every time I see that new series called "Coming Home" It's great that those soldiers are home, but I want mine home too.

I too wonder what this will mean,...does that mean that Osama's #2 will step up to take his place then? Like the Vice President does for the President? I sure hope not,...even as such, you know our forces will hunt the rest of the Al Qaeda leaders.

Sadly in this case after the leader is dead, the enemy keeps fighting.

I like stuff that's cool.

Wish I could have been the one to pull the trigger on him.

Nobody needs to step in because they're already there! Bin Laden was reported to be on dialysis and very frail, at this point he was little more than a figurehead, he had stepped down from command a few years ago.

Killing him is almost* completely symbolic, satisfying the blood-lust of the average american. Now the enemy is faceless, which is quite appropriate since al-quaida is a highly disjointed movement. I'm eager to see what happens next because the hoi polloi seem to thrive on identifying an individual enemy or figurehead despite how meaningless that is.

edit:
* the fact that he remained alive or uncaptured was likely a great propaganda tool for recruiting new extremists.
