I use facebook to show my photos to family and friends. I am Not a pro, or even a Fauxtographer, I just like to take pictures for my own enjoyment, especially on vacations and such, and of of various subjects that just intrigue me. I have no interest in being pro...
Facebook is convenient. I can load and email a picture from my iPad, or iPhone from anywhere, and it goes immediately up. I thought about doing a photo blog type of thing years ago, but at the time it was sort of a pain in the butt. It would be nice if it was something that accepted email as "updates", being photos or writings. I don't want to have to mess with HTML and FTP. Facebook is easy, but has so much other crap on it I would like to move away from it for photos. Plus, my father lives ten hours away, and likes to whine about the fact he never sees pictures of his grand daughter. He refuses to use facebook, and although I send him the album links, he says they don't work half the time. We have been reduced to mailing a 4gb USB drive back and forth. Any suggestions?

Flickr might be another solution. Just upload your pics to it, without all the social networking malarky. Welcome to Flickr - Photo Sharing

I also need a site that will accept from email. One of my chief desires is to be able to upload on the go from iPad, and you can't upload to a site that makes you chose, for example "c:/mypic1.jpg", because you can't get to the file structure. I have an old laptop... But I hate taking it on trips. It's bulky and there's the bag and charger and all it's crap, plus fancy hotels rape you for Internet... (but why is it cheap hotels give it for free?). I have used webshots for this site, but its not really suitable for what I'm looking to do.

This looks perfect... They even have an iPad app... You can do it all right from iPad, photos, writings, etc, etc. Thank you!

Wordpress is win and you can enable remote posting (from phone etc) and posting via email (email :P).
The big benefit - however monopolised - is that everyone is already on facebook. I don't "use" flickr purely because it means I have to go opening other websites, logging in, uploading more photos. I use flickr as either a dumping ground for random images to share on the net or to host a few photos that I use with a wordpress flickr widget. When you send the links to the fb albums, are you sending the one in the top URL bar? There's also a public link at the bottom of the page for people not on fb.

I do like the facebook tagging thing. I wont abandon fb entirely but i think ill just put a nlog link up every so often, and new photos can go on it. That way i can still talk to friends, comment on crap, and such. But writings and pictures can go elsewhere.
