Default yucky self portraits... :/

So sometimes I'm in a mood of taking self portraits, only to get dissapointed with the end results. Does anyone else have days like these, when you think you look pretty good in the mirror, and than decide to take a few self portraits to only see that thats not the case For some reason the pictures just aren't very flattering Maybe cause I dont really think them through and dont use any special lighting or set up Just really hate that feeling, makes me want to never take a shot of myself ever again, or let anyone else photograph me eather (which i never do anyways...) gaaah how i hate that feeling! well i guess thats just my lil rant of the day...should of started this thread out by saying "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears"

I have those days too. Too many to count. I agree with you with the lighting set-up. Preparation makes it perfect?

The reason I dont do any special set up for the shots is simply cause I dont have time, with 2 lil ones ( 1mnth old and a crazy 19 month old running around) its hard for me to find alone time..and if I do set something up it will just get knocked over by my crazy one chasing me around...and by the time its nap time for them, I am so worn out that I cant even think about anything other than dropping dead on my bed, even if it is only for 10 mins since the tiny one will probably wake up to be fed and all that nice stuff mommy gotta do

I should get some alone time ones they'r off to school, eh?

I always think I look hideous in photos because I can't rely on anyone to get the right angle and I am uber critical! However, I was pleased with my self-portraits because *I* had the ultimate control.

I don't think I have ever liked a picture of myself.... done by others or self portrait. Then again, I'm not usually too happy looking in the mirror either.

Me too scooter, I'm way more lined and lumpy in the face in photos than I picture myself, I still see picture myself with the complexion I had when I was 18, but I'm pushing 30 now and reality is HARSH!

I know what you meen about angles..my boyfriend just doesnt seem to get it, and always takes pictures from below, and I always end up chucking the pictures with that doublechin(somehow I only grow one in pictures he takes). Actually no one in my family gets that different angles work better for different ppl..

Also what happens is that nobody really looks the same when looking at oneself in the mirror and in photos. It's odd, might have something to do with the way we look at ourselves, or how we think of ourselves.

I have this vision of what I look like and its much better than anything I've ever seen in a picture. For this reason I would rather avoid having my picture taken and just stick with how I look in my head.

Now I think I'm going to go study what makes one person photogenic and others not so much....thought I doubt its really something I can improve upon so maybe not!
