The other day I was at the local shopping centre which is expanding to include a Myer store - a very realistic (and tack-sharp) life-size photo had been put on a wall in centre-court to advertise the fact.
I stopped to admire it, then continued to walk past - as I did, while looking out of the corner of my eye i saw something that made my stomach lurch - everything in this still photograph seemed to be MOVING! ... most disconcerting. Next time i took my 2MP mobile cam to get some photos of this photo, unfortunately there were chairs and things set up in the centre-court and i couldn't get the 'wide-angle' shots i wanted to show this. This is a really clever and interesting use of perspective - To see what i mean, look at the line of tiles on the 'real' floor. The photo is placed vertically and at right angles to this line of tiles. Now look at the lines of tiles in the photographed floor, in the first photo all these lines of tiles are angled to the left (anti-clockwise) away from the real line of tiles. As you walk past and get near the centre of the photo (second photo) the real line of tiles line up with the tiles in the photo. If you walk further past (third photo), the lines of tiles in the photo are angled way to the right (clockwise) away from the real tiles. All in all, to someone walking past it gives a sensation of movement (it would probably best be observed by taking a video as you walk past)

Must have, I thought it may be some sort of screen with a projector behind it throwing a hologram onto it to give a 3D image and went up for a closer look, looks to be ordinary fibreboard.

From the images youve posted so far it actually looks rather unconvincing.

Thought it was sorta reminiscent of works by 3D street artists such as Edgar Mueller, Kurt Wenner, Julian Beever, Manfred Stader (et al) which look really three dimensional when viewed from one location but the painting changes and eventually becomes quite distorted when the viewer changes their viewing position too much. >> 50 Absolutely Stunning 3D Street Art (Paintings)

Yeah looks pretty boring to me too I'm afraid :P The fact that the people don't move give it away. The use a similar thing in football and F1 on advertising - the stretch it on the ground so from certain camera angles the ads appear to stand up.
Does remind me of a school trip skiing in austria though - we went to this club, it was quite small and my mate asked "is this it?", so we told him no and pointed to a door sized mirror on the wall that had a door knob on (wtf?) and then spent 10 minutes laughing at him trying to "open" the mirror and get through the wall :P
