Default Facebook Photo settings

What size and file type do I set my photos to when I upload them on facebook? Right now my photos look like CRAP(pixelated, blurry) being uploaded to my facebook fanpage. I read that there's a specific size or file type to set photos to so they at least look decent being presented.

Well, I am not sure what FB does to the photos but they tend to not look their best no matter what you do. I usually resize mine to about 600px on the longest size and do a slight extra sharpening before posting. That is about the best you can do.

When you save your photos to post, do you use the 'save for web' function? That might help. It does require a smaller file or it doesn't work, which may help you if part of the problem comes from Facebook sizing down your photos (poorly).
I know that both Totally Rad Actions and MCP Actions have free web prep actions if you become a fan on Facebook. I use the Totally Rad one, which resizes and sharpens and prompts you to save for web.

Default Uploading images to Facebook

Have you tried creating an album opposed to just uploading one image at a time. When you create an album you get two option's for "quality." I would recommend trying the "High Resolution" option as this will most likely limit the amount of compression that occurs. I'd go with a standard JPEG image file. I always upload high resolution JPEG files to Facebook using the "High Resolution" option and they always turn out looking great.

For me, the happiest I have been is resizing to 800pix on the long side, at about 75 to 80% .jpg. They don't look as pixelated, but I have been having some pretty bad color shift issues with FB. The trick is to try to keep the file small enough to keep FB's compression out of the loop as much as possible. I don't condone uploading hi res, unless you don't care about having your work swiped.

Agreed, and just slightly different, I go with about 700 on long side and at about 70%jpg and things seem okay for me at facebook.

resize them to about 600px they will look alot better.

the more pixels you have when you post it, will not be supported by all monitors and they look pixelated and blurry.

so if you resize them to about 600px, most monitors support this size and they dont look blurry

The only issue is that if you upload a high res image to facebook it is a conduit to the world and its sister taking your image and using it for their own purposes i.e. FB has the "download Image" & "set image to my profile pic" buttons.

Of course with the right watermark, people taking your photos from facebook can act as free advertising.
