Default computer question

I am looking at buying a new laptop but am not too sure what I am looking for in a new one? $$ is a small issue so I cant afford a real expensive one --- around the $500.00 mark. Anyone have any advise on what to look for?

For that kinda cash you should be able to get one with an i3 processor. Get the most amount of memory and hard drive you can. Don't worry too much about manufacturer, the components are pretty much the same, just some are heavier than others and some batteries last longer.. You're looking at bottom of the range so be prepared to compromise.

Thanks. I am hoping to be able to talk hubby into a few more $$ to put in it. I was looking at an i3 or i5 so I am glad to know I am on the right track!
A Mac would be an absolute dream but $2500 for one (that price is including software and NOT my photoshop! eeep!) I would have to trade in a kid or 4☺.

My wife just bought a Toshiba with an i3, 4 GB ram with a 500 GB hard drive on sale for $529.
Like Swissjon said you're on the middle lower end. My wife is very happy with hers.

No, you can get as well spec'ed machine for less than half that, so make sure you know what you are wishing for. I have nearly bought a top mac a dozen times and just cannot justify it.

I would look over at the DELL website to get a good idea of what specs are avail at what price.
Is it for photo work or just a general machine?

I want this one for photo work. It will not be for playing on, I will use the laptop i have for emailing, FB-ing, and other internet addictions.
The Mac is a major pipedream as I know we can never afford one and so I am opting for the most bang for a buck in a PC.
I own an Acer now and I like it but it is not built for photos and the like.

I would trade the kids in and get a macbook pro with Aperture 3.0 installed on it. LOL. A mac is way better than a windows.

If it can fix that horrid grammar, I might be swayed to pay the double or triple Mac is asking for in their over priced machines.

You know, I think we've got one or two threads around here we could use to test that out.
