Default I'm such a happy chap!!

After my problems with my 16-85 lens, I went to the local camerashop and asked them to try my lens on their D7000 and their 16-85 on my D7000. After swapping and changing a few times, the end result is that the lens is producing very soft photographs on both cameras. Nikon has asked me to return it for fixing or replacement.

However, I felt so sorry for spending half an hour with this pretty shop assistant trying to smile and be patient with me for doing all these tests on a camera that I didn't even buy from there, I figured I should buy something..

So I bought myself a 35mm 1.8 Prime..

I just had a little play with it, and it's producing some REALLY nice pictures. it seems a little prone to CA, but that's easy to fix.. The LR lens profile does the job extremely well, but these are definitely the best pictures I've had from this camera.

Ok, I know I've been harping on about how a 50mm has the same magnification as our eyes, even though the 35mm has the same field of view, but I take mainly landscape photgraphs, and the wider angle is much more useful..

And anyway the f1.8 50mm looked silly on my camera, and the f/1.4 was more than twice the price.

So I'm a really happy man.. I had an excuse to buy a lovely fast prime lens that I can keep attached to my camera while Nikon do their stuff with my 16-85.. And the lack of zoom is going to force me to use my feet and imagination.

How long did you suffer with the soft 16-85?

1 month.. I could see there was something wrong from the moment I got it, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't me just being unfamiliar with my new camera.

No offense Jon, but you're really really wrong here. But it's YOU that are producing some really nice pictures, with help from the lens.

Had to find something negative to say to you since I'm pissed/jealous you have hot camera shop employees.. all i get is crusty creepy ol' "I got a camera, take off your clothes" types around here.
