Default My conscience is clear

About a month ago off eBay I ordered a hand strap for my camera. It was only $15. I get an email right away thanking me for my purchase and the item will arrive in 5-10 days. No tracking number. 10 days came and went. A month came and went. No strap. So last Friday I email the seller asking where's my stuff? 3 days go by, no reply. I go back to eBay and file a complaint with the resolution center. They issued me a case number, said they will contact the seller immediately to resolve this. And I had the choice of continuing to wait for this item or get a refund. I checked get a refund.

The very next day I get an email from eBay saying I just received a full refund back into my Paypal account. Great. That was quick. So...guess what arrived in the mail today? The camera strap. Really great. I have a free camera strap now. Except now I'm feeling guilty for unintentionally ripping this guy off. I didn't want to go through this whole thing again with eBay and Paypal un-resolving everything I just resolved. So to make everything right, I just donated my refund money to the American Cancer Society. I will sleep good tonight and will enjoy my new camera strap.

In the spirit of Charlie Sheen and the Warlocks, WINNER.

That's great of you.

I had a very similar thing happen. The seller "cancelled" the item a little after I'd paid and the seller was nowhere to be found on eBay (closed account), so I furiously asked for a refund.

Guess what arrived in the mail the next day? $135 Canon battery grip.

I didn't think of charity though. I'm poor enough as it is

That's cool rosserx, I don't think too many people would have done that.

You know I just had a similiar situation withsome backdrops I had ordered, and 1 that was on backorder since December. What I found interesting was that when I emailed they responded and said it would be 3 more weeks, and then I got the order 2 days later! I felt like it was a case of "she who bitches the most" gets her stuff!

Keep it. Screw 'em. If it took a month and a complaint to eBay to get things resolved, then that's their problem.

Leave negative feedback too.

ok, I have to pose a question:

What if it were $1,500 instead of $15?

I would have sent it back, or found some way to pay the person back. But that's just me.

If it were just an 'average Joe' seller I'm with Luke, If it was a Powerseller, I'd kind of expect better though, so in that case maybe not.

I would like to think that I would too. In fact, I have has something similar happen. Contacted the seller who responded, "thanks, but keep the additional product as our apology for the inconvenience". My conscience was clear.

I would never do a large ticket purchase on eBay for this very reason. You never know who you're really dealing with. I could live with putting up $15 on "faith" that I'll get my stuff but not $1500. I don't have that much faith.

So this what if scenario would just never ever happen, so I don't have an answer for that!

If it was something valuable I would make sure the seller got his money too, but it was just a $15 leather camera hand strap. Its kinda nice actually. But it was over a month with no communication. What was I to think? I guess I had a hybrid Osmosis attitude about it. I said screw him but I also felt I should not keep the money either because I like the strap. So I donated "our" money to charity.
