I have a Canon 7D and I have 2, 8G CF cards.. one card will reader, but the other one I have to plug my camera into my computer and transfer files that way..
any ideas on what causes this and how to fix it so I can use my card reader with both cards?? (neither card came WITH the reader, nor are either one from the same manufacturer as the reader) thanks Kelly

What is the brand of your card reader? I have no problem reading Sandisk III, IV and Ducati CF cards (from Nikon D3, D300, Canon 5D Mk II and 5D) using these two card readers (Sandisk Extreme and Lexar Professional UDMA CF USB 2.0).

I use three Lexar Professional UDMA FireWire 800 CompactFlash Card Readers, one stacked on another. Works good...and quick downloading. Plugging a cord into your camera and computer makes downloading slower than molasses.

I NEVER use cheap readers...don't want any readers ruining my cards. Note that your reader is already showing random behavior while those two I suggested work for years.

Is it the 27,000-in-one model? I have one sitting around somewhere, it's spotty at best. Now that I have a built-in SD reader, I only ever use it for cell micro-SD cards. My personal favorite is the Lexar FireWire reader, but if you're on a PC you'll need USB. Still, go with SanDisk or Lexar.

ok.. let me rephrase my question...
aside from the brand of card reader that I have.. is there a reason it would read one card and not the other??

It's not the card. I have that same exact card reader. It doesn't work consistently.
