Talk to your agent. I have found different companies have different coverages included or not in certain policies you may have. I think my growing photo equipment pile is in need of me checking with my carrier to be sure!
I paid the price one time in assuming something was covered with my current insurer because it was previously covered by another insurer under the same "kind" of insurance.

not sure where is like where you live (im asuming your in the US) but here we have home insurance and contence insurance, because we are only renting we only pay for contence insurance
as long as no piece of our gear is worth over £3000 it is automaticaly covered by our contence insurance, if there is anything over that then we have to declare it althought now i have put all this i do belive we also have seperate camera insurance either way i would definatly advise having renters insurance just incase, it costs next to nothing and is a real life saver

Forget about the stupid camera until you have some renters insurance. If someone hurts themselves in your apartment you may be out your life savings and then some - the camera is secondary at this point.

You would need to add it to your home owners policy as a rider, just like jewelry. Make sure the policy will cover you for the equipment when you are on vacation etc. Your insurance company may require you to provide serial numbers for your equipment.
If you decide to go professional, you will need a separate type of policy. |
