One could argue that while thats an interesting photo collage or series, that is not the largest photo ever taken. Indeed most large photos are simply enlargements. Ansel adams used large format cameras but even those are smaller than say, x ray film plates which can be two feet square.
It has been theorized the largest photo ever taken is on the shroud of turin. Using a "camera obscura", the image on the shroud is actually a mannequin outside the room. Of course, no one will let the scientists test the shroud for traces of silver nitrate. Either way - cool link and an interesting project.
