How would you choose?

As a poor student with little money, im trying to utilize evrything at my disposal, so i came across these two lenses. Im in desperate need for good zoom lense and as it would be around 250 euros to buy Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR new, im starting to consider wheater i should change my 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX Zoom-NIKKOR completly for wider range lense (18-105). This way i could get some money back of it and buy it cheaper.

I've read some reviews about the matter and i hear 18-105 has some distortion(?) when shooting 18mm.

Tell me your thoughts, how would you proceed? Would this be a good deal?

To add: As i know some of you might ask, im shooting with Nikon D3100. I got no prefrence on what kind of photos i like to take, so anything goes for now.
