Default Replacement Lense. Insurance?

So today I went up the the big city to get my passport renewed, Hitched a ride with my sister as she was heading up that way anyway. When I got in her car she says "what did you bring your camera for?" lol, I just told her that if she had to ask, she wouldnt understand the answer and left it at that.

So we get downtown and parked, so of course I whip out the ol' cam an start snapping away (the skyscrapers are atop a beautiful rivervalley) The sister slightly annoyed and half a block away already, yells back for me to hurry up. Off I go, running down the block, slipped, tripped and landed on my camera.

I had the 60D and 18-200mm lens with hood on, (kit lense, but the only zoom I've got) a 430ex II flash on the hotshoe, crashed it on the ground and quite literally snapped the lense into two pieces. The flash now has road rash, but the body is quite alright at least.

The day wasnt a total loss though, after snapping some tabbs off the broken piece I was able to keep shooting by holding that piece up against the rest of it... as long as i didnt shoot long anyway, and manually focused.

So, assuming I'm not the only Idiot running around smashing up their equipment, How do you insure these things? Does household Insurance cover equiptment like this? I dont currently have household insurance, but Im starting to think that some kind of accedental damage insurance is pretty important when the kit your shooting with starts creeping up over the 2k mark.
