Default self taught?

I was talking with my friend Jessica (who is also a photographer) today about famous photographers. After talking for a while she mentioned Ansel Adams and how he was a self-taught, self learned photographer. His work is absolutely amazing and to be self-taught makes it that much more amazing to me! So just as a fun thread I thought I would see who else on here is self-taught. Did you teach yourself ? or have you had formal education?

hope everyone is having a great week

Amanda

No one is self taught. The moment you ask someone a question, read their writings, watch how they do things, they are teaching you. Adams learned from many people around in his day, took their knowledge, added it to his own, and became the great darkroom innovator that he was.

Lack of a "formal" education does not make one self taught.

But in the sprit of your question, Up until last year I had no formal education in the arts. I am now a fine art photography major, but for the last 47 years it was all informal.

I guess I worded my post wrong. I understand what you mean..and agree with it. So to reword my original post: Have you received any formal education? or was it informal?

No formal photography education, however I did learn the basics from my father and have done a lot of reading.
I'm just a hobbyst.

No formal education in photography or the arts... far too much formal education in other areas

Unless you count taking photography as a subject in high school, then no, no formal education here.

I also just had one class in high school and one class in college. The only regular member I know of with an art background is LeeR.

Wait, a second. Are you really comparing yourself to Ansel Adams just because neither of you went to art school?
