I am sure that many, if not, all of you have a few (or hundreds) of precious photo images that should have been great, but had been ruined by over-exposure, camera shake, out of focus, etc and deeply regretting that you couldn't go back in time to perfect those same photo opportunities. You regret the photos so much that you haven't deleted them and are still sitting in your files, at least, as mementos.
As much as we like to only share our best photos, I think our other photos deserve to be seen as well, if not for learning purposes, but at least to give those lost moments and efforts some justice. I would really love to see such photos and hear the stories behind them. Not only would it make me feel better from feeling like an incompetent camera shutter button presser, but I would like to learn from other people's mistakes and regrets. One or two photos will do, as we don't want to overload the thread with hundreds of images and break DP's servers I'll share mine for a start. Sydney New Year's Eve 2009 - Kirribilli ![]() As the notes in my flickr says, I really like the composition on this shot and I am even surprised, myself, that I managed to do this. However, my lack of technical skills prevented me from making this into a great photo. The firework is blurry and was not in full burst. This was a handheld shot. We don't live in this part of town anymore and won't get this type of opportunity to take such shots again. Sydney New Year's Eve 2009 - City after the Fireworks ![]() I took this shot from our apartment window. I couldn't get out of the house to do it because i had a sleeping baby in the bedroom. I didn't realise the importance of tripod in shots like this, hence, the out of focus image of the city after the firework finished. The smoke from the fireworks created such a dramatic and intense background over the city. And I missed it because I didn't know how to shoot this properly. Again, handheld shot. Didn't even bother post production edit. Can't be saved at all ![]() Thanks for letting me share.

I have a whole series from the Disney World Animal Kingdom safari ride. I call it my "blurry animal butts" series. I didn't make sure the shutter speed was fast enough and there was not a lot of time for composure. Add to it a herky-jerky truck ride and you can see the complications. Plus, the animals seem to know you're there and hide their heads. Two years in a row - thirty pictures of animal butts.

theosus - I have a whole series of Disney Animal Kingdom shots too - all printed out in an album taken on fulll auto. Well it was a long time ago on honeymoon.... I was so desperate not to miss anything that when we got back to the start of the ride we sat in a plumb position and great vantage point and went round the ride again! - oh and got yelled at by the guy who was running the ride he thought we were right cheeky doing that.
