Exclamation Facebook Privacy alert

Privacy alert for my pals: As of today, facebook will start using your photos in ads appearing on the profile page of your contacts. It's legal & is mentioned in the fine print when you create your account. TO stop this do the following: go to Account, Account Settings, then click on Facebook Ads, choose "No one" on the drop-down menu & save changes.

just a heads up....

Thank you BuddhaPi.

There are two fields that you have to choose "No one".
The first is on top of the page, and for the second one you need to scroll down, where it sais:
"Show my social actions in Facebook Ads to..."

I'm curious...if by adding a prominent watermark on the image, could it be to the photographer's advantage?

I usually don't post many photos on FB, but adding a very visible watermark across the image might make it less attractive to FB,or give someone free advertising.

What do you think?

It's probably auto-generated and thumbnail-sized, so no.

I think people get a little carried away with Facebook privacy
What they are doing I actually see as a positive for the budding photographer get more exposure for your images, facebook claim no ownership to the photo nor is it given to a third party advertiser
To protect yourself...
NEVER upload full size image, they are auto resized anyway so resize image before uploading it (mine are all batch processed to be 600x400 and if anyone thinks they can claim ownership to such small pics with a lack of detail so fooled them!

I don't post my artistic images on Facebook, just friends and family (and my cat which is family of course ) So no, I don't want facebook to expose my personal life.

To the rest of the world they are no body so really you are not exposing yourself to the world, and its no different to what is posted on flickr (or any other hosting site) ... I can go there and find thousands upon thousands of images of peoples family and friends so it is not a facebook thing, any image you put on the net you no longer have control over that image

It's only to your friends, who can it hurt I guess... (but didn't this happen last year?)

as.... A friend of mine emailed me a screen shot of one of my Metallica photos advertising Metallica in the USA (on FB)... it was awesome... :-)

I dislike the idea of my family and friend's pictures, to be connected with some product ad.
(To tell you the truth, I haven't understood exactly what they do with the pictures).
I totally agree with what you say about uploading something on the net and loosing control over it.

You have to share your images, or choose not to share your images - it is a choice, not an absolute.
