Default canon 430exII

g'day folks, i have a crazy question for whomever has the answer, for the benefit of all those who've never asked...

I'm still pretty new to this, I've recently bought a canon 430exII, the chick at the counter said that i could use this flash as a slave by using the flash onboard my camera. What i mean is that the 430 would "see" the flash from my onboard flash, and fire. I cant find anything to support this in the manual, or from canon's website. Does anyone know what i'm talking about, if this flash will indeed do this, or was the chick at the counter wrong? she said she had this model an that she does it herself, she was flirting like crazy so i dont think she was lying about it...

Which camera do you have? The only cameras that have flash masters in the pop-up flash are the 600D, the 60D, the 7D, and the 1D Mark IV. If you don't have one of those cameras, then you cannot use the 430EX II's built-in slave capability until you put a 580EX II, 580EX, 550 EX, or ST-E2 on the hotshoe of your flash.

To use the 430EX II in slave mode, you have to set it up. Look at pages 26 and 27 in the 430EX II's manual. You hold down the zoom button for two seconds and set the channel and group. Then set up the pop-up to use the same channel and that the group ratios are the way you want. Then you should be good to go.

your very right, i finally figured it out on my own by reading my camera's manual (instead of the flashes) I've got the 60D and was barking up the wrong tree searching for a way to get the flash to "see" my camera's pop up flash and fire. I didnt realise that my camera would have Its own wireless transmitter.

I guess flirty girl was right after all ;D

Thank you inkista, your explination perfect.
