A couple of days ago I posted that I just recieved my new EF 50mm 1.8 lens from B&H Photo and was ecstatic about it. Well I took it for a walk today and happened to look into the lens from the front. There is a white speck inside the lens almost dead center. Not sure how it would affect IQ but I'm not going to wait and find out. Sending it back for another...is this common?

I only took a few shots with the lens before noticing the speck. I can't seem to find anything on the image when viewed on my computer but none of the shots are of a solid dark color where something like this would show up. After taking the lens off, it is definately inside the lens on one of the elements. I can see it in there from both ends. Sending it back to avoid any possible future problems.

probably a bubble or dust, likely to get through during production. It wont affect sharpness - it will very slightly affect micro contrast, in that area of the image. In the cheaper lenses with manufacturing tolerances and lighter quality control they will show up. Possible that a replacement wont have one.
