I really don't know whats wrong with some people on this site. Hell we have the best e-books for beginners and in fact all photographers, right here at DPS. Show some loyalty and promote this site and the contributors to it. It is afterall DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY SCHOOL, or have we forgotten.

Absolutely correct John. As I generally click through to the forum without seeing the other stuff, it slipped my mind. In my defense I am a geezer with ADD. I do have one quibble, the books proffered by DPS are in PDF format and best viewed on a computer or e-reader. I am a tactile person and those formats just don't do it for me. Jim

Another suggestion thats not a DPS e-book. I wanna throw in my vote for Light: Science & Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting

It teaches you how to see the different kinds of light, and how to use light. It basically puts what you already know into words. You see it everyday, this just makes you take notice of it.

Matt, also check out the books offered by Amazon specifically for your camera...I got one for my D3000 and it was loads of help because all cameras are different! Just make sure to specify it is in the books category or you may end up with 1000s of hits!
