Default Too much Dutch angle?

An acquaintance of mine had his kid's pictures done recently. Is Dutch Angle the thing to do now? I started checking out the womans facebook page, and holy crap every other picture is crooked. It made me nauseous... It was like watching batman.

Is that the "in" thing now? Ten years from now will we all be trying to straighten and crop these pictures? I've done one or two myself, but usually my Dutch angles aren't on purpose, just a result of me manhandling the camera.

Oh my god, that was head doing! I don't care if it's the in thing to do now, it's just too overdone. One or two photos, ok, but if the whole series is taken in such obscure angles, it gets boring and mundane to look at after a while.

That's my thought on it, anyway.

I think it's a fad, but for this particular set of photos, I think it works. Kids are topsy-tervy and chaotic, so why shouldn't that show in the photos?

I am not a big fan of it either. I think my ocd and mathematical mind take over and over ride the urge to make things look crooked.

I invited the photographer to come give us her perspective. Not much fair talking about her work without her thoughts being included.

I agree with Jim, though as a rule, I'm never a fan of excessive rotation, (I don't like the term Dutch Angle either... reminds me of Dutch Oven). I enjoyed the set, and wouldn't say it detracts from it.

Could it be a one-legged photographer named Eileen?

Couldn't resist.
Please forgive.

Just my opinion...I liked some of them. But The ones where the photographer cut off the little girl's face or the top of her head are my least favorites. Those make me uncomfortable. Other than that...I think they're well done...no exposure issues & I like the DOF.

I guess it's a personal taste thing. I like them, for this little girl who looks like an imp I think it works perfectly.
