Sydney and Surrounds - Day after Supermoon!

Hi all,

Is anyone in the Sydney, Wollongong or Central Coast areas looking to head out for the supermoon? I am busy Saturday night but from what I have read, its probably better in some senses to photograph the moon either the day before or after.

I am probably going to head out Sunday night as the moonrise and moonset conincide which means you should be able to get a good view of the moon with everything else still being illuminated partially.

Any suggestions on good places to photograph the moon or ideas for photographing the moon taking advantage of our easterly perspective? Alternatively is anyone looking for a shooting partner on either Friday or Sunday nights for shooting the supermoon?

Best positions to photograph the Moonrise over the horizon for Sydney are:
1. South Head Road along the Macquarie Lighthouse. (New South and Old South Head Roads converge after the roundabout)
2. Along the cross streets of Military Road from Diamond Bay to Dover Heights.
3. Grant Reserve in Coogee Beach
4. Trenery Reserve in South Coogee
5. Along Marine Parade in Maroubra at Jack Vanny Memorial Park.

thanks for those good suggestions. I think I will probably look at one of those spots on Friday night

I was at Macquarie Light house last full moon by accident and it was a good spot for sure.
