Angry TV vs Laptop screens & editing photos

I have just purchased a SVG cable to use my LG HD TV to edit my photos (laptop does not have a HDMI socket to allow true HD transmission) and have now opened a proverbial can of worms....

What I am seeing on the TV bears no resemblance to my laptop screen. The colours are richer, unnatural cartoon like richer than my laptop. I had noticed that some pictures I had previously printed on my simple Canon printer were also unnatural but I put it down to my printer Inks being faulty. The thing is now everything I have previously edited (and also uploaded to Flickr), are probably way off colour wise.

Should I accept the HD TV colours as being correct or do I have a bigger problem here?

It's all about color management....
To get this right you need to set correct color profiles and do some sort of calibration....
Most TV's don't have calibration tools built in, but you can manually adjust the settings so the display "matches" AFTER you have your computer/programs set correctly.

Although my TV is ISF calibrated but I'm not sure how good it is for editing without a profile.

On my Mac I can assign a color profile to use with any attached display, including a TV.

I've considered trying to set a custom calibration for my TV using coloreyes pro....but I very rarely connect to my TV.

I don't have a profile since it was calibrated by ISF professionals with their own equipment. Not sure there is a matching profile (after the calibration) for my TV and not to mention it could be too big for editing.

You should try the custom calibration and tell us about your experience.

Your TV will almost certainly have a MUCH higher contrast ratio than your monitor as well. For example; my monitor is 8,000:1 my TV is 150,000:1. Ontop of that most TV's have a load of extra features for enhanced colour reproduction, backlight levels, colour temp etc. Then screen coatings can make a difference too :P

It's worth thinking about where people are going to view the images after you've done them.
