Congratulate him/her. Show him that you really don't care. Once he doesnt get a reaction out of you, he'll back off. That's what every bully of any kind is looking for. A reaction. Kill him with kindness.

Him: Mary got her work featured in XYZ Magazine.
You: Really? That's great! Tell her I said Congrats on getting published. What was the photo of?

Him: Mary's got a bunch of paid gigs already.
You: Wow,.. glad shes doing well. That should bring in some extra income for a nice vacation. ( Or something along those lines. )

My advice would be the same as above. But you mention that its everyone in the office that is annoyed by him and that he is such a verbal bully. Do you have an HR department that could possibly deal with him? He shouldn't be allowed to get away with bully-ing, even if it is just verbal. Easier said than done I know......

Sure, act like it's do big deal. If he's trying to get a rise from you and doesn't, he will probably give up soon.

Not really much to add to faeriegodess612, as she pretty much nailed it. Maybe ask if she needs any "pointers". That could throw him for a loop.

As for NgaiHill's suggestion of going to HR, what is he really doing? From a work stand point, he's simply being a donkey. He's not make it a "hostile" work environment that you can't DO your job, he's just trying to be a one-ups-man.

It's really surprising that he'd be bragging to this degree though because it's not HIM doing it, it's his wife and why would he be spreading the wealth (of accolades)? He's obviously lying becuase there is a better chance of winning the lottery than scoring a magazine gig with less than one year of experience. LOL She might be good...but she's not THAT good.

Start having fun with him. You know the costs of glass. Ask how that magazine gig is going? He'll say she's just about a lock for it. Congratulate him and ask what the topic will be that she's shooting. He'll say portraits, sports or shooting in the Serengeti..... No matter what he says find the most expensive lens and ask if he got her the 500mm fixed 1.4f lens? He'll say it's on order. You'll say good, because she's going to need that to land more jobs.

Start having fun with him and you are offering good advice, albeit expensive advice. :-)

All the best with the Donkey! ;-) BTW, I'm drawing a blank right now....what's another name for a donkey??? Damn, this is gonna keep me up ALL night now!

Gary

Just make sure your co-worker or his partner is not aware of DPS.
