Don't be so mean, OK?

I'm taking up photography because I have an interest and I want to encourage my creativity, but I'm lurking around these boards and reading review on cameras and equipment, and I am running into a ton of sarcastic people with very nasty comments.

Not your typical run of the mill 'your photo sucks', but stuff like 'Why are you here' and 'if you are gossipy and like to keep up with people for show, this is the camera for you'.

WHY?

I'm usually a good judge of character, so I'm going to go so far as to say I know the majority of us photogs are not like that, but for those who are - you're being watched - don't be so mean; There's medicines and hugs for you if you feel that bad - just ask!

Really? You really felt the need to post a big finger-wagging "shame on you thread"?

To be honest..... I'd rather read sarcastic posts any day of the week over posts where self-appointed thread police tell others how they should conduct themselves.

Not to say that I agree with 4chan, but "Pics or it didn't happen" seems appropriate.

It's true that if you are going to hang out here you have to have a thick skin (or really good drugs.) But I like to think of it as a kind of family. You know how it goes; your brothers and sisters can say things to you that you would never tolerate from a stranger. They would also go to bat for you if you really need them and that's true here as well. I have seen people here go to the mat for newbies who were just getting started. They'll do it for you, too...if you can learn to tolerate a bit of good-natured ribbing and the occasional sharp elbow.
