Default Weird question, hope someone can help

With Gimp, I believe, there is a "fonts" folder somewhere in the program folders.
I think I read somewhere that you can download fonts and stick them in that folder, and there they are in Gimp, ready to use.
So my question is, can the same be done in Photoshop? I've searched through the files, and I can't find a font folder...
Not even sure if I'm right in thinking that it can be done in Gimp.

So, can it be done? And if so, how?

TIA

I don't know a thing about Gimp, but with PS, you have to install the fonts on your computer, not within the program.
With windows 7, I just right click on the font file, click install, and then next time I open PS, it is there.

yup.. i've done it several times.

simply search your C:/ for .rtf .rar .ttf or whatever your font format is... then paste it in there.. and well as in the Windows Program files FONTS folder..

Restart Photoshop and they are ready to use.

I am a font FREAK!!! I love fonts!

Don’t search gimp or photoshop… if you use windows, your fonts will be found on your hard drive in the Windows folder ie… C:\WINDOWS\Fonts (at least up till windows XP) Once placed in this location, you should be able to use them for ANY application on your computer.

When you download your fonts from the internets, they will usually be in a zip file. Make sure you uncompress (unzip) them before putting them in to the font folder. You do not need to move any read me files included with the zip to the font folder, only the actual .ttf
Simply drag and drop them to the fonts folder in windows.

There are several font sites out there, many of them are full of ad-ware, spyware, and such. Be careful of what you are clicking on. There are also various types of licenses for these fonts.. Shareware, freeware, donation etc… keep an eye on that. Reward the font artist if you use their font. Some would simply like a mention if you use their work.

Also, pay attention to what the font includes.. Caps only, letters only… is there numbers and or punctuation included? There have been a few times that I have stumbled into the best font in the world only to find it would not work for my project because it did not have numbers!

Enjoy! There are tens of thousands of fonts out there to use in anything from your signature to.. graffiti for a wall.

Assuming that you have windows. Go to control panel, appearance and personalization and then open the font folder. Copy and paste the ttf (font) file into that folder. If that doesn't work, try to see if you have an option to install if you right click on the font file.

Yay! It worked! I'm so excited. New fonts for Photoshop!

Can you recommend some safe places to get fonts?

My favorite is dafont.com You could spend days there. Be careful to not overwhelm your system with fonts.. You will quickly find favorites and stop using others anyway.

I've been really liking: MyFonts: Webfonts & Desktop Fonts for fonts at the moment. They aren't all free, but I've found that they have heaps of free ones mixed in.
