Default What's the "beter" format for a crop?

I always go to the 8x10...maybe it's the print/frame thing I still hold onto, but the 16x9 or "captured" aspect ratio is never the one I gravitate towards....

I'm always thinking "publication/framing"......is that terribly outdated?

Not if you're planning to print it and frame it! I stick to that aspect ratio too, for exactly that reason. Web pages don't have any particular demands related to picture sizes, nor do magazines etc. So I don't see what the rush is to go "Wide Screen"..

I am pretty fond of 8x10, or square myself. I kind of gravitate to either one of those.

I favour the native 3:2 - usually 9x6, but finding decent frames is a pain in the ass

8X12's have become easier to find with more of a selection...at least on this side of the Atlantic.

There arent many cameras that shoot 16:9. 2:3 is the standard for dSLRs.

I tend to shoot and crop for both 2:3 and 4:5

That's why I said "or"...
I always shoot the native 2:3 but usually crop 4:5

While magazines may not "require" a given format, if you want all of it included in a full page print it needs to be 4:5

Most of my photos are never in the 8 x 10 format unless they are shot for commercial reasons, portraits, etc., (most clients are just too damn lazy to get custom frames and want the standard , boring, uncropped photo). But, it's there money, right. My personal images I crop for impact as I just don't want a bunch of wasted space surrounding the main subject of my photograph.
