Random person on FB: Hey Mr. Thao... you take nice pictures...
RPOFB: Can you take pictures of me?
Me: Sure, please visit my website...
RPOFB: I want some free pictures...
Me: No....
...
RPOFB never to be heard from again....

Believe me that is not unique to Facebook.

I get at least 6-10 emails or phone calls a week from "companies" who think that it would be "to my advantage" to take pictures for them for the "exposure" or "potential future work".

I had two just today saying just that. Problem was that they obviously had no idea what sort of stuff I do as neither was for anything I would touch.
And off course they wanted copyright and all shots handed over straight after the shoots??


Not polite replies to them I'm afraid.

LOL...what I get from time to time is:

Person: Your photos are beautiful, I'd love some of my kids like that!
Me: Thank you, would you like to set up a session?
Person: Actually, I just bought a DSLR and wanted to know if you'd teach me how to take pictures like yours.
Me: Sure, I tutor for $xxx per hour.
Person: Oh....no thanks.
