Default Job Transport Shocker

Ive just booked a job for later in the year, £1500 for the evening, but requires a bit if a trek. Mid point we have to cross the sea as the event is on an island. Its 78 miles on the ferry with the van and they want ................. £670!!!!!!!! How ludicrous is that!? Granted thats why the price is higher as the client pays, but christ, that one leg of the trip costs more than the product!

So if anyone knows a cheaper way to get from England to the Isle of Man, speak up :P

sounds like you need to renegotiate the price to include travel expenses. Finding a charter plane would probley be cheeper, but you'd need transportation to the event from the airport.

I'd say get in touch with the client. Perhaps they can inform you of an cheaper way, or foot the bill. Ultimately, they're going to have to pay to get someone out there it sounds like... might as well be the guy they wanted to be there in the first place.

I'm just astounded at the price.

Is it during TT week? If so, that'll be the reason it is so expensive. Everything goes up for that time of the year.

Can you travel without the van and if necessary hire transport on the island? That would definitely reduce the cost.

The van transports the product and usually goes out for £600. These added expenses are factored in which has put it up to £1,500. I was just blown away with how much the ferry company want just to get a van 78 miles on a boat.

I think we can get a large car/picasso/range rover across for about £248, maybe less if we drive further north and shorten the ferry distance. I guess it depends what they class as a "business vehicle". :O

Normally, expenses are paid as well. You might have to get back in touch with them and revise the contract, if you signed one.

Yeah, the client is paying 1500, pretty much 750 for the product, 750 in expenses
