Default HP Pavilion p6710f Desktop

So I have a question - anyone have a HP Pavilion p6710f Desktop PC? My computer wasn't doing very well anyway (VERY slow, NO multi-tasking going on here) and then I tried shooting in RAW and downloading the plug-in's to make my camera files compatible w/ PSE Elements 7. Totally screwed it up, had to take it in and get it wiped. Nothing major was lost, just a whole lot of work to get it back to the way I had it w/ contacts, bookmarks, etc. Not to mention it has Vista which sucks anyway and isn't helping anything! So I believe my computer is going to soon be my children's computer and no more munchkins will ever be allowed to touch mine again.

So - Really on a budget, already spent too much of this tax check! I found the HP tower at Staples on sale for $399.98. So I know it's probably not the best thing for as many pictures as I'm editing and are going on & off my computer, but it's way better than what I've been working with, and I've definitely never had 1TB of hard drive before!

Anyway, wanted to hear some thoughts or if anyone knows of something better for around the same price (I'm thinking not likely).
Thanks!
Sarah

Well, never mind. Well, I was typing that first post, my husband bought it for me. So I guess I'll find out firsthand how much I like it - so excited for that TB & Windows 7!!

Oh man, I would love to have your prices for PCs. I need to pay the same amount for a much weaker configuration.

I always wind up paying more, I build my own stuff, I insist on intel chips and nvidia graphics... Just because I've had the fewest compatibility issues with that setup. Beavis9000 is in big need of an overhaul, and I'll probably put around 600 into innards - that's everything in the case, no new monitor, case or power supply.
I envy you guys satisfied to buy off the shelf.

I fell ya theo- Although, I'm an AMD girl. That's why I bought the HP Notebook that I did. I don't know enough to build one myself, and when I bought mine I wasn't married to my husband. ( He's an electronics tech, and could build his own if he wanted.) That and I wanted a laptop that I could take with me wherever I wanted.

HP is one of the leaders I think in computers right now. Although, if you want serious graphics, incredibly fast processors, with loads of memory and specs that will blow your mind. You simply have to go Alienware. But you'll pay for all that horsepower. They're primarily made for gamers, although they do look awesome, and can do just about anything you'd want.

I have had a Pavillion p6211f for a little over a year, and apart from a hard drive failure soon after I got it ,it has been fine .(The service people were great in replacing the hard drive, and I had all my stuff backed up on an external hard drive) You will find Windows 7 so much better.Enjoy your new machine.

Thanks!

And I think the Mac Book Pro is probably a "little" over the $400 range!

I used to respect alienware as serious equipment. But Dell bought the company, so they lost some street cred with me.
