Hello there from the Caribbean!
![]() So registered for this forum after stumbling upon it online and then proceeding to get a book recommended by the site. Understanding Exposure. Great book so far! However, and I feel kind of embarrassed to ask this but, if I don't ask I'll never know. The book keeps making reference to "correct exposure being indicated in the viewfinder". I'm using a Canon 60D, and I'm not really sure I understand what the author means by this. Maybe someone could shed a little light on this for me please? Thanks!! |

Hello, and welcome. If you look in your viewfinder when you are composing a shot you should see a ruled scale down at the bottom of the screen. This is indicating your exposure values...centered, the camera's meter "thinks" this is where the correct settings are for the shot. On my Canon, and I suspect on yours, overexposure is to the right of that center mark, whereas, to the left would be underexposure. I'm not sure, but you may not see it while shooting in full auto mode, so try switching to one of the creative modes to take a look, like AV mode

Haha, for a while I had no idea it was there either.
I just noticed it one day, and wondered if it had always been there.
