well exposed and nicely composed. but you seem to have picked up whatever it is in the bottom left of the shot for your focus, and with your long lens and wide aperture, you have such a narrow depth of field that the cat's face is out of focus. best bet is to make sure the eyes are in really sharp focus as that is where you want the viewers attention.

I think photography is more about composition than on the tech stuff. The best pictures are those that make the person watching think "hum, thats nice", and when the picture can turn on emotion you can call it art.
Think of the kitty photo, how placing it inside the frame (more to the left, or wider zoom, with another object, or focus on the eyes) would have made the picture a little more 'interesting'..

Your stats indicate that it was very dark there (1/40, 800, f5.4). Hand holding at 300mm is very risky, there's a quick guideline that's good to bear in mind: Never have your shutter speed lower than your focal length. So at 300mm you'd want to be at 1/320 say.

Perhaps try throwing some more light in and going for f8.0, 1/160, ISO 200, 100mm if you can. See how that works out. Spot metering, centre weighted focus.

Nice pic though, the colours are nice makes it all warm and fuzzy feeling :P I like the cat it looks well fluffy :P My cat's being a pain in the ass the last few days

Thanks fr the information, I'd also get some comment to focus on the eyes, that makes it looks more attractive. I should give a try !
