Been away but came back

Hi all the good people at DPS. I joined last year after buying a Lumix fz38 and find a love of photography. I'd posted a few pictures, got involved in a few threads and generally found this place to be good fun and a great source of knowledge. I expect to be around for a while but then I went AWOL. Well I doubt I was missed, I'd only just started posting, but I thought I'd say hi..... again.

I stopped posting as life got in the way, I had to close my business, a victim of the current ecconomic climate, and my wife had a suspected brain tumor. So it was job hunting, worrying over my wife, closing down the business, sorting hospital visits, scans, neurology appointments etc all led to the camera being put away.

Well things have changed. I have a job, the business is closed and I walked away with some decent money from the ashes, I bought myself a Canon 550d and most importantly my wife eventually got the all clear (sort of there's no tumor, at least nothing nasty, so she's being treated for chronic migraine).

So lifes good again and I'm in the mood to take pictures. Hopefully I'll be around a bit longer this time round.

Yes the last third of 2010 was not a nice time but so far 2011 has been good to me and my wife. We even won a crate of wine for a photo that got the editors choice award in the Sunday Times photo of the month competition (though to win first place would have been nice as that was a holiday). Funny thing is that it's a photo I took a few years back with a cheap 5mp HP P&S. My wife sent it in as she'd used the same pic to win a "commended" award previously in a magazine. She then claimed the 12 bottles of wine were hers, and I quote, "I entered it and you have to be in it to win it". So much for copyright lol. I got a few glasses at least.
