This guy is an idiot! Wandering around alone on snow covered trails, suddenly realises its too dark to be out there - how fast does it get dark?? Should've kept a closer eye on the weather, planned the length of time the walk shouldve taken him.
People who put other people's lives at risk (rescuers) due to their stupidity & lack of forethought while out in the bush really p*@#ss me off! Happens all the time in NZ. Hope he gets a bill for the rescue costs!

When I first read the title I had visions of some tourist having their snap taken with the flash full blast in the face getting blinded and falling backwards into a lake.
Glad to hear the guy wasn't seriously injured and used his flash in ways that you wouldn't normally use flash

There is no way you would have found me calling for help. I would have gotten out there on my own accord somehow.

Well I most be one of the idiots you all speak of, I have gone out and gotten lost in the moment. I always have a plan of attack, people know where I' am going, how long, and what trails I will use, and add a 2 way gps in the mix as well. But I' am very well known for going out, stay longer and wondering off trails, climbing cliffs and everything else. I always push the limits on my trips, but I have been out there, when the weather is just perfect and then all of sudden I'm at the top of a mountain when the weather turns to shit, it becomes almost zero visibility, and I'm having to rush out. Now I have never been rescued our had to be searched for, but I have had to hunker under rock overhangs for storms to pass. I guess what I'm saying is you can go out with the best laid plans, then make the one decision, that can just ruin everything. So don't jump to conclusion, and start calling people names till you have all the info.
