Default DSLR Video - Pros & Cons

Hello Everyone,

I have just wrote a blog post about what I think are the main stand out pros and cons of video on a modern DSLR.

Adam Badge Photography

I was wondering what your thoughts were and if you had anything to add to my blogs main points as far as standout pros and cons.

Look forward to your comments.

Default Best DSLR for video

Thanks for the post, Adam. Well done!

Do you have any impressions on comparing cameras for video. I am considering the Canon 60D and 7D and searching for opinions on how to judge each (or any other similar camera).

good post, but it you want to shoot video....get a real video not a 60D or 7D. Frankly, those cameras are not up to what they can be. Even through Dan Carr has some good points in his website Canon 60D Vs 7D » Dan Carr Photography - Photography Product Reviews + Ski, Snowboard and adventure photography tips . I'd get one that's truly dedicated to video.

I agree with Jim,

All the DSLR video setups are just not really designed for shooting video in the way a video camera is - DSLR video is the one trick pony of being able to have narrow depth of field from the larger sensor.

It`s nice to be able to use when you have only one device with you and your primary function is stills, but - I suspect people will migrate large sensor video devices over DSLRs as that market matures.

The problem at the moment is that a real large sensor video camera doesn't exist. Red products are close, but cost-prohibitive.

I think Sony and Panasonic will nail it this year, but it's sort of a waiting game.

Watched a tv commecial being filmed yesterday with a full frame canon dslr. Not sure which one. I'll have to see the result before I can judge it's video capability. The guys filming had some big light boxes, gels, a dolly, etc., the cameraman/director was even wearing a beret, so you know he knows what he is doing, right?
