Question Confused- Electronically Printed vs Photograph?

I am going to enter my first photo contest, but I am a bit confused with the wording on how the pictures are submitted. This is what it says:
Please write a caption or title for each photo and include the entrant's name and address on the reverse side of each photo. If you use a digital camera and submit electronically printed photographs, you must also submit an electronic file of the photo(s) at no less than 260dpi at an image size of approximately 3 inches x 5 inches. This can be saved on a CD.
I have burned them to CD already, but I am not understanding is the 'electronically printed photograph"...what is that?
I states "also submit an electronic file " which is the CD, right?.
Are they asking that the photos be printed? If so, then why should I do a CD also, if printed photos do not require a CD submission....
I am so confused!

The way I read it is that if you shoot film they don't expect you to send in the negatives to prove that you took the picture. If you shoot digital then they want the printed picture as well as the digital file to prove you shot it and possibly to use for their website or promotional purposes.

Why not scan in the photo and send them a CD if you shot film? No idea. Maybe they'll scan it in themselves from the print?

edit: I'd ask the contest organizers what they mean. No such thing as a stupid question in my book.

But can they really tell if it was a film or digital camera from a print?

I would ask except there is only a mailing address, and I have been analysing this part for months and the deadline is this week, kinda ran out of time.

No clue but I seriously doubt it.

It sounds to me like they want you to send in a print of the photo(s) you want to submit, but also the file saved on a CD to prove that you took it, like oldwolf said. Id say send them both a print, and the file saved on a CD.

As for the panoramic, a professional printing service could probably do it justice.

Yeah that's what I take from it. Film prints with no negatives or digital prints send in the original - maybe they want to see what kind of post production has been done?

The way I read this is you can either send them a print of the image, or you can send them a digital file. They are telling you what the image size should be for digitally submitted images.

Depending on the image and who's looking at it, yes. Even a clean digital image has a different feel to it than something shot on 50 speed Velvia or Tri-X 100.

Yup........most can tell if it came from either a print or a digital camera. Most likely they
will open the image up and check the capture info embedded in the image.
