Default Working with models - is anyone else here very shy

I don't know why, but I am very shy when working with models. Does that happen wth anyone else? How did you overcome the shyness?

Alcohol helps......

It is one of those things where the more you do it, the more comfortable you will get with it. Force yourself out of your comfort zone.

Sucks to start, but once it is old hat..... piece o cake

I think you need to be confident in 2 things:
1. your own skill set for the job you are trying to do
2. the intended result at the end of the shoot.

Without these 2 things you will have added pressure to a shy personality.

Have plan before you start, never get the model to set and then start wondering how you are going to pose her/ him.
You should know the scene and even have sketches of what you want to do. That way you can confidently direct the model knowing that you at least have a purpose. That will give you confidence and also disguise shyness,

Thanks for this. I never thought of doing a sketch of the end result I was trying to achieve. I have a problem trying to vocalize my plan, so this might just be the ticket.

Great advice! Thanks. I'm not good at sketching, but I can get there extra early and get a good look at the surroundings.

Thanks.

If I could paint or draw I would not be a photographer.

Stick figures or notes are fine, but just have a plan on paper. If it is in your head it will jumble and loose direction

Yeah, it's not long before you're comfortable with alcohol and drinkin' heaps!

I feel uncomfortable every time. I think the problem is that I know the photos will turn out well after post processing and that, but when they see them straight away and they aren't amazing, I think they will be very judgemental. It was the same when I used to fix computers. Give me a boxen and I'd fix it, but have the customer standing over my shoulder and I felt uncomfortable everytime *I* know that the bluescreen or error that flashed was fine, but from their point of view I'd imagine they just thought I didn't know what I was doing
